Are you ready to make some noise? Battle of the Bands is back!

Are you ready to make some noise? Battle of the Bands is back!

Central Coast Council is delighted to announce the return of Battle of the Bands, giving young musicians the chance to compete for fame and prizes. Previously held from 2004 to 2019, this iconic event makes an exciting comeback to bring together the region’s best young bands.

Previously, band members aged 12 to 24 took part in the same event, but this year we are introducing the ‘Kids Clash Division’ for bands with members aged 10 to 13, giving even younger musicians the opportunity to showcase their talents.

With the support of Damien Gerard Sound Studios, Musicians Making a Difference, Central Coast Music and Arts and The Skills Engineer, the competition includes three heats, two semi-finals and a grand final, culminating in the Creative Engineers Showcase event where the winners will be announced.

Central Coast Council Director of Community and Recreation Services Melanie Smith said Battle of the Bands was always about more than just music.

“We are pleased to reintroduce Battle of the Bands, a platform that brings our community together where every young musician, regardless of age or background, is welcome to showcase their talent and participate in our vibrant community life.

“We also offer support to schools with the Play the Forward School Prizewhich will benefit the winning band’s nominated school, supporting Music/CAPA Faculty students,” said Ms Smith.

Young songwriters looking to hone their skills are invited to attend the Council’s Songwriters Development Workshop to receive feedback on their original songs from industry experts. This workshop will take place on July 10 at 12:00 in the Damien Gerard Studios.

In addition, all participants will have access to professional development workshops and industry lectures throughout the competition program.

“Battle of the Bands has been a springboard for successful bands like Short Stack, Elaskia and The Moving Stills, giving young musicians access to development programs and industry experts. This competition not only connects young people, but also supports their growth, cultivates a love for music and we can’t wait to see young talent shine this year.”

Council administrator Rik Hart said Battle of the Bands not only celebrates our local talent, but also contributes to the development of the region by creating opportunities for local businesses and young people within our creative industries.

“We are proud to invest in the future of our young artists by broadening their training pathways. Through initiatives such as the Play the Forward School Prize and our professional development workshops, we connect industry with education to nurture the next generation of musical talent,” said Mr Hart.
