Comments on the Comprehensive Plan discussed at the Crow Wing County Meeting

During Tuesday’s Committee of the Whole meeting, the Crow Wing County Land Services Department discussed some of the county’s comments regarding the most recent draft of their comprehensive plan.

The department has made some notable changes to the plan, including simplifying land use categories. The province will consolidate into one commercial and one industrial district, a change the province says “reflects a commitment to flexibility and adaptation.”

However, one resident’s comments indicated concerns about the language used, both on the topics of recreation and the Mississippi River.

“Maybe we can make a few changes to the recreation component just for more clarity, and then we can also add some other areas where the river probably needs to be mentioned for more clarity,” Environmental Services Manager Chris Pence offered during Tuesday’s meeting . “So I think overall the comments were good and I think it will help improve the plan and increase the clarity of the Mississippi River plan.”

Comments from Crow Wing County residents on the comprehensive plan will be accepted and analyzed through July 5. The county will also hold a public hearing on the plan on July 18.
