Patna High Court quashes Bihar government’s 65% quota for jobs and education

Patna: The Patna High Court on Thursday quashed the increase in reservations from 50 to 65 percent for Dalits, Backward Classes and Tribes in government jobs and educational institutions, which took place in Bihar since November 2023.

A division bench of the Patna High Court has passed the order on petitions opposing the quota hike legislation brought by the Nitish Kumar government in November 2023.

After hearing both sides, the court reserved its judgment in March.

The Nitish Kumar government on November 21 last year issued notifications in the government gazette for increasing the quota for backward castes from 50 to 65 percent in state government jobs and educational institutions.
