Kevin Costner’s character’s project – building a baseball field on part of his family’s corn farm in Iowa – has a happy ending. The Field of Dreams complex is hoping for a similar outcome.

After MLB held games at the Field of Dreams complex in 2021 and 2022, the league was unable to do so in 2023 due to construction of the facility. They won’t play there in 2024 either.

Will there be a Field of Dreams game in 2024?

MLB does not have a Field of Dreams game scheduled in 2024. The league instead decided to host several international series in Seoul, London and Mexico City, while also hosting the Rickwood Field game between the Giants and Cardinals.

The Field of Dreams complex was under construction in 2023, making the venue unavailable for the event last season. Construction on the facility has now been completed, so it’s worth wondering when MLB will return to Iowa for another game at the iconic venue.

When is the next Field of Dreams game?

It’s not clear when MLB will hold another Field of Dreams game. The league has not yet announced any plans for the future, but given the success of the first two games in Dyersville, Iowa, it is safe to assume that MLB is eager to return to the iconic venue.

It’s also worth wondering if MLB wasn’t confident that construction on the Field of Dreams complex would be completed before the game. That could have encouraged them to stay away from the venue for the second year in a row, especially given the league’s desire to play a game at Rickwood Field.

When was MLB’s last Field of Dreams game?

MLB last held a Field of Dreams game in 2022 for a game between the Cubs and the Reds. Chicago won 4-2 and never trailed again after scoring three runs in the top of the first inning.

Drew Smyly recorded nine strikeouts in five innings to secure the victory. Nick Lodolo took the loss, allowing four runs in 4.2 innings.

Four different Cubs drove points in the victory: Nick Madrigal, Ian Happ, Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki.

There were no home runs in the corn in 2022, unlike the 2021 edition of the game in which then-White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson launched a game-winning blast into the long corn stalks.
