New Delhi: A day after UGC-NET was cancelled, Education Ministry officials on Thursday said no complaints had been received regarding the exam but suo motu action was being taken based on the inputs available to protect the interests of students.

Statement by Joint Secretary, Ministry of Education, Govind Jaiswal

Education Ministry Joint Secretary Govind Jaiswal said the details of the inputs cannot be shared as the case has been referred to the CBI and is currently under investigation.

“No complaints have been received but the inputs we have received from agencies indicate that the integrity of the examination has been compromised. The action has been taken suo motu to safeguard the interests of the students,” he said.

“A new date for the exam will be announced soon,” Jaiswal told reporters.

The ministry on Wednesday canceled UGC-NET, conducted by the National Testing Agency, after indications emerged that the integrity of the study may have been compromised.

The ministry’s decision comes amid a huge row over the NEET medical entrance exam over alleged irregularities, with the matter now before the Supreme Court.
