Priyanka Chopra’s New York City restaurant ‘SONA’ made its debut in March 2021 amid COVID-19 restrictions and quickly gained a significant following on social media. However, she announced in August 2023 that she is parting ways with SONA, which she co-founded with Maneesh Goyal. It was made clear that the restraint will continue despite her departure from the company.

In the latest update on its Instagram account, the restaurant has announced that it will soon close after a remarkable journey of more than three years.

“After more than three remarkable years, SONA is closing. We are extremely grateful to everyone who came to visit us. It was our greatest honor to serve you,” SONA stated.

The restaurant thanked its dedicated team for the delicious food, smiles and warmth every day. According to the post, SONA’s final service will be brunch on Sunday, June 30. “We hope to see you one last time for a meal or a drink. Our doors and hearts are open,” the statement concluded.

Reacting to the message, several SONA lovers expressed their shock as they said, “We will miss you!”.

‘Sorry to hear that. I loved your food!”, one person commented.

“Glad I got the chance to dine, may new businesses open doors,” chimed in another.

A third user wrote: “So sad! You were so wonderful. You will be missed.”

Why did Priyanka Chopra leave SONA?

Last year, Priyanka Chopra’s rep revealed that the actor, who has been a partner of SONA since its opening, will now focus on other ambitions.

In a statement to People Magazine, the rep said, “Priyanka has relinquished her partnership at SONA. Bringing Sona to life will always be a proud and important moment in her career.”

“Priyanka has always strived to bring Indian culture to the forefront through storytelling, whether that be through compelling content for film and TV, or through a beautifully presented dish that embodies the haute cuisine of India.”

She can pursue these goals on a larger global scale by stepping away from SONA, and she is excited about the opportunities ahead, the person added.

Maneesh K. Goyal, a friend and former business partner of Jonas and co-founder of SONA, told the publication that working with Priyanka is “a dream come true.”

In a statement, he said they are grateful for Priyanka’s partnership and support, adding, “We are excited about our respective new chapters ahead.”

She will no longer join as a creative partner, but will remain part of the SONA family, Goyal said.

Priyanka’s husband Nick Jonas suggested the name of the restaurant, which means ‘gold’ in Hindi.

The restaurant offers dishes reminiscent of many Indian subcontinental regions, including Goan fish curry and paneer tikka.

When SONA made its debut, Goyal called Priyanka the “creative force” behind the restaurant. He noted that she helped him with key elements including the menu, music and design.
