Keeble goal king as Pies smash home the last hope

A STUNNING first half in front of goal by James Keeble has kept Boort in the running for a place in the North Central final.
The Pies were systematic in knocking the wind out of St. Arnaud’s sails after the Saints had won the previous round through drought.
Keeble finished the match with six goals in three quarters. This past semester, he watched from the bench as Jhye Baddeley-Kelly, Tom Potter and Ethan Coleman helped pull off the 96-point victory.
The Pies went into the match without Jarrod Fitzpatrick after doctors ruled him out pending scans on a hand injury. St. Arnaud was also undermanned and it took both sides most of the first quarter to find rhythm.
Both had four shots on target in the opening 25 minutes, with Boort on target to open up a 10-point lead.
A seven-goal second quarter saw increased intensity from Boort, with defenders at the top repelling every attempt by the Saints to register a score.
Boort was not without fault in the match and again scored seven goals in the final period. There were many misses around the target from 30 and 35 meters away.
Coach Dale Cameron believes his Pies have turned a corner since the 118 thrashing by Birchip Watchem in round six.
“That was a very bad match and in terms of results and form in recent weeks, the group has learned good lessons.”
Boort plays Sea Lake Nandaly this week and will have to beat Joshua Jenkins who kicked eight when they met in the first round.
