Gwm Ora UK partners with Octopus Electroverse to create summer charging guide in celebration of Clean Air Day 2024

Online research and data analysis group YouGov has found that domestic holidays in Britain will be the most popular option this summer, with many Britons heading south to enjoy the warmer climate, quaint villages and scenic coastline .

However, the increasing number of trips and the continued growth in the use of electric vehicles will see many taking longer journeys and charging in an electric car for the first time.

The route outlined in the new charging guide starts in the heart of the British capital London and then includes five stops at locations on the south coast of England around Kent, from farm shops to old-fashioned arcades and seaside resorts. Drivers can sip coffee, play games and enjoy the coastal views and fresh, salty sea air as they recharge for the next part of their journey.

β€œIt is so important to shine a positive light on the work being done within the automotive industry to create a greener, healthier and more sustainable environment for everyone,” said Toby Marshall, Managing Director of Gwm Ora UK . β€œI believe consumers are now more empowered than ever to make that greener choice a reality with recent developments in electric vehicle technology, charging infrastructure and accessibly priced vehicles like the Ora 03.”

The impact of air pollution on the environment and our health is a huge challenge for markets around the world and Britain is no exception. Currently, 79 percent of the UK exceeds the World Health Organization’s (WHO) annual average guideline for safe particulate matter levels. Furthermore, in recent years the British government has reported that cars account for 75 percent of road vehicle miles traveled in Britain and produce 57 percent of transport emissions. The adoption of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure can play a crucial role in reducing road transport emissions and contributing to a healthier, greener UK.

This is because a large number of EV and charging related myths are perpetuated online. Through this collaboration, Gwm Ora and Octopus Electroverse are highlighting how drivers can positively benefit from electric vehicles and convenient charging on the Octopus Electroverse charging platform.

Octopus Electroverse has quickly become the UK’s largest EV charging platform, making on-the-go charging easy with their ‘one card, one app’ model. Drivers have access to approximately 750,000 chargers from almost 700 different brands of charging points in more than 40 countries.

Since launching in the UK 18 months ago, Gwm Ora has built a strong network of over thirty stores with more than 1,500 ORA 03s now on UK roads. Based on an equivalent sized petrol car, it is estimated that 2,700 tonnes of C02 are saved annually, assuming each vehicle travels 8,000 km per year.

Earlier this year, Ora 03 (formerly known as Ora Funky Cat) received top marks from Green NCAP, an independent testing initiative that measures cars for their efficiency and environmental impact. With an average test score of 97 percent, the Ora 03 comfortably achieved a 5-star green rating and was subsequently named winner of the Green NCAP’s ‘Small Family Car’ and ‘Full Electric Car’ categories.

In addition, Ora 03 was awarded the Green NCAP ‘Greener Choice’ Life Cycle Assessment Award in 2023, which compares a car’s impact on the climate from ‘cradle to grave’, i.e. from the moment the car was produced, to to its useful life and ultimately to its end. -of-life treatment. Measured by greenhouse gas emissions and primary energy demand using a standard set of parameters, Ora 03 was at the lower end of the scale, outperforming many of its petrol and BEV counterparts. Ora Funky Cat achieved average life cycle greenhouse gas emissions of 112.9 g CO2/km, with the largest contribution coming from energy supply, which was responsible for 49 percent of climate-changing gas emissions.
