Jharkhand News: DSRSSC Ranchi is organizing a state-level main conference on NCrF along with CBSE

Ranchi, June 20: Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Sahodaya Schools Complex (DSRSSC) Ranchi, in association with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, will organize an important “CBSE State-level Principals Conference” focusing on the National Credit Framework (NCrF) as part of the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020.

This conference aims to discuss and explore the integration of school, higher and vocational education, allowing students to accumulate credits from nursery education to PhD level.

The conference will be held on June 21, 2024 (Friday) at the Vivekananda Auditorium of Delhi Public School Ranchi, with Dr. Biswajit Saha, Director (Skill Education), CBSE, New Delhi, as Chief Resource Person.

What is the National Credit Framework (NCrF)?

The NCrF is a pioneering framework developed to align with the objectives of NEP 2020. It aims to provide high-quality education integrated with effective skill development to leverage India’s demographic potential for economic growth by 2047.

The NCrF supports the integration of academic and vocational education, lifelong learning opportunities and seamless horizontal and vertical mobility across different education streams in India.

The CBSE will start a trial period of the National Credit Framework for classes 6, 9 and 11 from the 2024-2025 academic session.

Core elements of the NCrF

The framework has been carefully designed by a High-Level Committee (HLC) constituted by the Government of India. It lays out the principles for crediting learning through three main components: academic grades, skills programs, and relevant experience.

This makes it possible to establish equivalence and mobility between general and vocational education, which includes both formal and non-formal learning.

Key aspects include: lifelong learning and recognition of prior learning experiences, multiple entry and exit points within the education system, mechanisms for continued professional development and credit transfer.

Core principles of the NCrF

The NCrF framework allows students to earn credits by demonstrating their knowledge and skills in various subjects and activities. It is designed as an enabling framework, leveraging the strengths and resources of regulatory agencies and autonomous institutions. The NCrF also recognizes the importance of online and distance learning, integrating these forms of education.

The total number of fictitious learning hours for awarding credits within the entire school education has been set at 1200 hours per year, which amounts to 40 credits. One credit corresponds to 30 notional learning hours.

Students can earn additional credits through additional courses, programs or projects. Credits can be collected from classroom learning, laboratory work, innovation labs, projects, sports, arts, social work and vocational training, among others.

This framework shifts the focus from traditional classroom education to competency and learning outcomes-based education, closing the gap in achievement of learning outcomes.

Dr. Ram Singh, President of Dr. S. Radhakrishnan Sahodaya Schools Complex Ranchi cum Principal, DPS Ranchi said, “The seminar promises to be an informative and transformative event, bringing together 150 to 200 school principals from across the state to discuss and strategize the implementation of this seminar. ambitious framework, which ensures that education in India evolves to meet future demands.”
