Safer travels this Eid thanks to speed weapons: police

The Eid journey was safe and comfortable as police took several measures including the use of speed guns, Bangladesh Police said.

The people’s Eid journey was safe and comfortable as traffic movement and traffic system were normal, said a press release signed by Enamul Haque Sagar, Superintendent of Police (Media and Public Relations) on Thursday.

Over-speeding is generally considered as one of the major causes of road accidents and the number of road accidents has decreased due to prevention of unauthorized vehicles and control of vehicle speed through the use of speed guns on roads, the release said.

According to the data, from June 13 to 18, police used speed guns in 556 places and during this period 1,458 people were prosecuted for speeding.

In addition, legal action has been taken against 583 unauthorized passenger vehicles.

Meanwhile, action has been taken against a number of different vehicles following the installation of checkpoints in 2014 and 7,102 charges have been laid.
