DUI arrest after FHP vehicle struck in I-275 crash in St. Petersburg

Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) troopers arrested the 25-year-old Matthew Morrison Rosenwald from St. Petersburg for driving under the influence after an accident in St. Petersburg.

On Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at approximately 9:49 PM, a multi-vehicle collision occurred on southbound I-275 south of 28th Street South involving a Ford Freestyle, an unmarked Florida Highway Patrol (FHP) Ford Explorer and a Kenworth dumper were involved. .

Rosenwald was driving a Ford Freestyle in the outside lane when it veered onto the highway shoulder and collided with an unmarked FHP Ford Explorer. The impact forced the Explorer into the lanes and was struck by a Kenworth hauler traveling in the center lane.

Rosenwald was unharmed and later provided a breath sample that showed his blood alcohol level was 0.249, more than three times the legal limit, leading to his arrest for drunken driving with property damage.

The trooper, a 50-year-old man assigned to Tampa, was transported to the hospital and suffered minor injuries.

The driver of the dump truck, a 49-year-old man from Holiday, was not injured in the incident.
