Severe Thunderstorm Warning issued for Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties

4WARNING Weather – The National Weather Service has issued an emergency thunderstorm warning for Thursday afternoon in Oakland, Wayne and Macomb counties, in effect until 4:15 p.m.

Severe thunderstorms occurred along a line extending from near Macomb Township to near Sterling Heights to near Southfield, moving eastward at 10 mph.

These thunderstorms will bring 60 mph wind gusts and quarter-sized hail, potentially causing damage to roofs, siding and trees in the area.

Other locations affected by the severe thunderstorms include Warren, Troy, Southfield, Mount Clemens, Sterling Heights, Royal Oak, Clinton, Macomb Township and Detroit Zoo around 3:20 p.m., and St. Clair Shores around 3:35 p.m., Roseville, Shelby Township, Utica, Lathrup Village, Bingham Farms, Harper Woods, Pleasant Ridge, Grosse Pointe Shores, Center Line and Huntington Woods.

This includes the following highways: I-75 between mile markers 55 and 74, I-94 between mile markers 220 and 245, I-696 between mile markers 8 and 28, M-10 between mile markers 7 and 18, M-39 between mile markers 16 and 20 , M-53 between mile markers 16 and 20, and M-59 between mile markers 43 and 49.

These storms produce heavy rainfall, which can lead to flash flooding. Do not drive your vehicle on flooded roads.

Residents must move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a building for their protection.

Excessive heat and air quality warnings have been issued throughout Metro Detroit. Temperatures rose above 90 degrees through Friday.
