The Copa America 2024 is ready to go.

The tournament will bring together the best teams from North, South and Central America for a special edition of the CONMEBOL continental championship, which will also see the United States warm up as hosts for the 2026 World Cup.

This year’s Copa America will feature the usual ten South American nations, along with six ‘guests’ who will challenge the established CONMEBOL powers for their own continental crown.

Lionel Messi and defending champions Argentina, as well as global football power Brazil, will be forced to navigate a 16-team competition featuring the likes of the US, Mexico and Jamaica.

Copa America 2024 schedule, format

The 2024 Copa America will consist of 16 teams, divided into four groups of four teams each. The draw took place on Thursday, December 7, 2023 in Miami, Florida.

The competition will then begin on June 20, 2024 with the opening group stage match in Atlanta, GA, featuring defending champions Argentina against play-off winners Canada. The group stage will then run until July 2, with the top two finishers in each group advancing to the knockout stages, while the bottom two are eliminated.

The knockout stage starts on July 4 with the quarter-finals, with a single elimination round played to the end. The only exception is a third place match, which is organized for those defeated in the semi-finals and is contested the day before the final is played on July 14.
