Homeless children are given priority in the new housing strategy

Scotland’s Housing Secretary has promised “a permanent home for all” and said reducing the number of children living in temporary accommodation is a “priority”.

Paul McLennan has set out a government blueprint that he says can begin to tackle the national housing emergency declared by Prime Minister John Swinney last month.

McLennan said the “three pillars” of the strategy were to make more high-quality homes available, ensure the right homes are in the right places and provide a permanent home for everyone.

The minister said that rapidly revitalizing vacant properties, shortening the periods when rental properties have no tenants, attracting more private sector investment, improving planning and helping housing associations acquire larger single-family homes are part of the work.
