Former Wellman Movie Theater receives $300,000 grant for renovation, Girard, Ohio

GIRARD, Ohio (WKBN) – A former movie theater in downtown Girard recently purchased by the city has received a significant state grant to help with renovations.

The Wellman Theater on West Liberty Street has received a $300,000 grant as part of Ohio’s Capital Improvements Budget.

It has not yet been specified how the money will be used.

The Wellman was built in the 1930s. The original plan was to make the theater a smaller version of the successful Robins Theater in downtown Warren.
