Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP) President and CEO Jose “Joey” Javier Reyes shared his hopes for a bright future for Philippine cinema and the arts during the launch of the 7th Ortigas Art Festival on Thursday, July 18.

During his speech at the launch, the FDCP Chairman stressed that the challenge for stakeholders is to regain the trust of the Filipino public in the creations of their fellow human beings.

“Hopefully this (golden future) is not just the government’s job; it is the job of all stakeholders. What is more important now is to regain the confidence of the Filipino public in the quality and variety of Philippine plays,” he said.

Reyes stressed that it is important to show the right films and artworks to attract the local audience first and then the international audience.

“Development within the country instead of globally all at once. I have always felt that there is no point in going to all these film festivals if we don’t have the right films to show. Films with quality that reflect not only the Filipino but the entire society,” the CEO explained.

With the theme “Art for All: A Celebration of Boundless Artistic Expression,” the Ortigas Art Festival is spotlighting more artists from all corners of the Philippines. This year, it will feature a diverse lineup of creative disciplines for people of all ages, including visual arts, film, photography, and dance.
