Vivek Velankar inspires students at YOJAK NGO seminar

Poona: Vivek Velankar, a career counselor, inspired students at a recent seminar organized by YOJAK NGO. Velankar said, “Invest as much as possible in yourself to be proud of your future as a student. The decisions you take today can have a significant impact on your future success and fulfillment. Education is the key to a better future.”

The seminar, focusing on opportunities in science and technology after 10th and 12th class, was held at Ga. Di. Madgulkar Natyagruha, Akurdi. There was an impressive turnout of around 800 students from classes 10 to 12 along with concerned teachers from community learning centres run by YOJAK in collaboration with CSR wing of Bajaj Auto Ltd.

Ramesh Venugopalaswamy, the guest of honour, gave valuable guidance to the students, emphasizing the importance of taking informed decisions for a successful future. Other notable attendees included Vijay Wavare, Anuja Saptashwa, Reshma Andhale and Renu Inamdar, the founder and director of YOJAK NGO.

Velankar also stressed the importance of instilling good habits in students, comparing it to laying the foundation for a strong building.

“It improves academic performance and builds your character, which leads to success in all areas of life. If you want to choose a career in science, then aptitude or intelligence tests are the best solutions. Plan your career carefully, because competition has increased, but so have the choices. Education remains the key to success,” he added.

Renu Inamdar spoke about YOJAK’s mission over the last fifteen years to provide access to education and development in remote villages of Pune district and slums of Pimpri Chinchwad.

She stressed the need to open up secondary and higher secondary education, as well as the science and technology sector, to students from vulnerable population groups.

YOJAK, in collaboration with the CSR division of Bajaj Auto Ltd., operates community learning centres that benefit over 2,500 students from grades 1 to 12.

These centres focus on building a strong foundation for higher education and developing balanced personalities among students from disadvantaged sections. A large proportion of the beneficiaries are girls.

The STEM Lab initiative, launched over the past two years, aims to increase interest in science and technology among students.
