Work from home policy: HCL Tech links employee leave to office presence

HCL Tech, India’s third-largest software exporter, is introducing a new policy that links employees’ leaves to their presence in the office, a Money control report with source reference. This policy requires employees to work in the office three days per week and at least 12 days per month. Failure to meet this requirement will result in a reduction in leave for each day you are absent.

This development comes five months after HCL Tech switched to a hybrid working model, requiring employees to come into the office three days a week.

According to the Money control report citing an anonymous employee, HR has begun emailing teams about this update, and it is already in effect. The employee added, “Once our leave is over, this could result in a loss of pay.”

Currently, HCL Tech offers 18 annual leaves and one personal leave to employees who have been with the company for less than three years. Employees with more than three years of service receive around 20 annual leaves and two personal leaves.

An HCL Tech spokesperson said, “Our hybrid work policy offers flexibility, with mid- and upper-level management following a 3-day workweek in the office, which supports collaboration. All other employees follow the work arrangements required to meet client commitments and these are planned by their respective managers.”
