‘Regina Hall Would Be My Answer’: Anna Faris Reveals Terms of Reprising Scary Movie Role

Anna Faris has had a change of heart since her absence from 2013’s Scary Movie 5. The franchise veteran did not appear in the fifth installment, but has reconsidered her plans to reprise her role in Scary Movie a decade later, amid a potential reboot.

Faris, who stars in the new film My Spy, The Eternal City , had two conditions that would convince her to sign on for another Scary Movie sequel and reprise her role as the unserious Cindy Campbell. One was that Regina Hall return as her co-star.

Anna Faris is set to reprise her role in Scary Movie

Anna Faris, 47, confirmed that she would like to reprise her role as Cindy Campbell if another Scary Movie is made in the future. However, that would only be possible if two of her demands were met, the actress said.

When asked about the terms, Faris replied, “Well, money!” before adding that she would be reprising her role, as her former co-star Regina Hall is also returning to play her best friend Brenda.

“We would make each other giggle all day long. Regina Hall would be my answer. And money. But mostly Regina!” the House Bunny star told People on July 19, Friday. She expressed her love for the 53-year-old star, who reprised her role in all four Scary Movie installments through 2006, admitting, “I would love to work with Regina again.”

The news comes shortly after Paramount announced in April that a new sequel to the parody comedy is in development. At 2024’s CinemaCon, it was revealed that the upcoming Scary Movie installment will be executive produced by Neal H. Moritz, and is scheduled to begin filming in late 2024.

Faris, who also hosts the advice podcast Unqualified, landed her breakout role as Cindy Campbell in the first Scary Movie in 2000. The actress last appeared in 2006’s Scary Movie 4, but decided to skip Scary Movie 5, which premiered a decade ago in 2013.

Why did Anna Faris skip Scary Movie 5?

Scary Movie 5 had to replace Anna Faris and Regina Hall with Simon Rex and Ashley Tisdale as the veteran duo opted not to reprise their iconic roles. While we don’t know the reason, Faris later revealed that she felt too old for the role.

Since the fifth installment would be a retread of the Scary Movie franchise, Faris revealed on Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen in 2019 that she probably wasn’t the best fit for a franchise makeover. The star admitted that she hadn’t even seen the entire fifth sequel yet.

Four years later, the Mom star took a new stance on a potential Scary Movie sequel, admitting that she’d like to know where Cindy and Brenda would be now, even though she didn’t have high hopes for them.

Surprisingly, Faris, who has starred in hit comedies like The Dictator, The House Bunny, and the Scary Movie franchise, didn’t consider comedy to be her “strong suit.” From her big break to major Hollywood recognition, comedy has become synonymous with Faris’ name.

But the star revealed in a 2023 episode of The Wrap’s Unwrapped podcast that she once struggled to accept her association with the genre. Still, Anna Faris felt grateful for her career, shortly after realizing the freedom comedy brought.
