Edmonton issues emergency measures due to extreme weather conditions due to smoke

The City of Edmonton has taken action due to extreme weather conditions as a result of smoke in the city.

The response has been activated – effective immediately – to ensure the health and safety of all Edmontonians and is expected to last until 9 a.m. on July 22.

According to the city, air conditions are poor and the air quality index is expected to be 7 or above for the next two days.

The response differs from the extreme weather response the city declared on Monday and extended on Friday, which is intended for heat.

Officials say recreation centers and pools will be open and N95 masks will be distributed.

Edmonton residents are advised to limit their exposure to smoke and keep all windows and doors closed as much as possible.

The activation started on Monday, July 15th at 9am and ends on Friday, July 26th.
