Felix Jarry and Elgaura with emotional home win in the Derby de Bretagne in Dinard

Edited press release from Jumping International de Dinard

aAt the age of 31, Felix Jarry (FRA) achieved the biggest victory of his career with Elgaura (L’Arc de Triomphe x Double Espoir) in the CSI3* 1.45m Derby de Bretagne, the highlight of the third day of Jumping International de Dinard 2024.

As he passed the last fence, he first looked up at the giant screen. It took only a few seconds for him to realize what was happening and his joy exploded, first with a fist in the air and then with his arms around his mare’s neck. “I can’t find the words to describe it,” Jarry said. “Last year we came to compete in this Derby for the first time. We made two small mistakes on the easiest verticals, but I told myself it was over. We agreed to meet again this year. I knew the mare was upright and could do it.”

Nicolas Delmotte (FRA) was the first to complete a clear round with Citadin du Chatellier (L’Arc de Triomphe x Diamant de Semilly) on the course of 21 obstacles and 24 efforts – designed by Jean-François Morand – a mix of classic and natural obstacles. “I am very happy with Citadin,” said Delmotte. “I had to balance him a bit at the end because he pulled hard, but in any case I could not have gone faster than Félix. I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Mars family for this competition. The horses here are very well received and, as I often say, this is one of the best competitions of the year.”

Delmotte’s time of 172.58 was quickly improved by Colombia’s Roberto Teran Tefur on Iron Maiden (Clarimo x Kashmir van’t Schuttershof), who stopped the clock at 169.00. The experienced 47-year-old rider, who participated in both the last Olympic Games in Tokyo and the 2002 World Championships and who finished fourth in the Derby de La Baule last June with this young 9-year-old Zangersheide gelding, held the lead for a long time, until the last pair, Félix Jarry and Elgaura, completed the third and final clear round. And especially the fastest, who took the win in 162.76.

Julie Gonin (FRA) and Estrella de La Batia (Diamant de Semilly x Lando) finished fourth with four penalties in 160.70, followed by Steve Guerdat (SUI) and Easy Star de Talma (Quick Star x Opium de Talma) in fifth place with four penalties in 161.27.
