The Seventh-day Adventist Young Executive, an active youth wing of the Seventh-day Adventist Church, has issued an urgent ultimatum to the church leadership, demanding a swift response from the board regarding the upcoming general elections scheduled for December 7, 2024.

The group is deeply concerned that the election process coincides with their holy Sabbath, a day of worship and reverence, which they believe is an infringement of their fundamental religious rights.

Despite their fervent appeals to the Electoral Commission (EC) to reconsider the date, their pleas have fallen on deaf ears. The silence of the leadership on the issue has left the youth feeling neglected and uncertain about their participation in the electoral process.

President Akufo-Addo’s recent call urging the Adventist community to do their civic duty and vote has further exacerbated the situation as the youth seek advice from their church leaders on whether to cast their vote or uphold their religious beliefs.

In an interview with Happyghana.com, the Chairman of the Young Executive of SDA, Mr. Isaac Baah, expressed frustration and dismay over the inaction of the leadership. He stressed that the group has given the leadership a 72-hour window to respond and give clear guidelines on their position regarding the elections. Failure to do so, he warned, will lead to peaceful street protests and demonstrations as the youth will not sit idly by while their religious rights are ignored.
