WNBA considering 44-game regular season schedule in 2025, commissioner Engelbert says

WNBA Commissioner Cathy Engelbert has suggested the league’s regular season could expand from 40 to 44 games ahead of the 2025 season, according to ESPN’s Alexa Philippou.

“We are looking at the footprint for next year,” Engelbert said, per Philippou. “We don’t have an international competition next year like the FIBA World Cup or the Olympics, so we can look at our footprint without any break or pause, like we are breaking this year.”

The four-game increase could coincide with the inaugural season of the league’s 13th team, the Golden State Valkyries.

A 44-game season is the maximum allowed under the WNBA’s current CBA. However, players could vote to opt out in November, with the deal expiring after the 2025 season.
