UPL University of Sustainable Technology, an initiative of UPL Group and Space Application Centre (SAC) of Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO), signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to promote research and innovation in chemical sciences. This collaboration is part of UPL’s broader strategy to enhance academic excellence and promote global recognition.

This collaboration will revolutionize research into chemical applications in materials science and related fields. It would provide access to cutting-edge research facilities, specialized expertise, and invaluable data resources for faculty and students, taking research to new heights.

Speaking about the partnership, Dr Nilesh Desai, Director SAC, ISRO, said, “Our association with UPL University underscores the importance of academic partnerships in advancing scientific research and technology. We look forward to the groundbreaking discoveries that will emerge from this partnership.”

Commenting on the achievement, Vikram Shroff, Vice Chairman and Co-CEO, UPL Group, said, “UPL University’s collaboration with ISRO is a significant step towards fostering a culture of research and development that benefits both the academic community and the industry at large. With over 170 active MoUs and partnerships, including industry leaders such as Lanxess India Private Limited, Lupin Ltd., Siemens Ltd. and Colourtex Ind. Pvt. Ltd., we are tackling real-world challenges.”

According to Ashok Panjwani, President of UPL University, “We are excited to collaborate with ISRO, which aligns perfectly with our mission to drive innovation and excellence in research. This partnership will provide our students and faculty with unique opportunities to participate in groundbreaking research. With this, UPL University remains committed to forging new partnerships and collaborations that will further strengthen our position as a leader in academic excellence, research innovation and societal impact.”

Besides ISRO, UPL University has signed MoUs with national research organisations such as the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR), including the National Environmental Engineering Research Institute (NEERI) and the Institute of Chemical Technology (ICT), Mumbai. These collaborations enhance research capabilities in environmental engineering, chemical sciences, sustainable technologies and more, and cater to the needs of nearby industries.

Internationally, partnerships with organizations such as Gexcon (based in Norway) reinforce the commitment to advancing safety standards within the chemical industry. Certification courses in plant operation and postgraduate programs in environmental compliance and sustainability, instrumentation, automation, robotics, process safety and piping engineering have been significantly enriched by these strong industry-academia collaborations.

At the regional level, partnerships with agencies such as the Gujarat Cleaner Production Centre (GCPC) and the Gujarat Environmental Management Institute (GEMI) in Gandhinagar underscore UPL’s commitment to sustainable development and environmental management.

These partnerships facilitate joint research projects, training programs and knowledge-sharing initiatives that address local environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices.
