Foundation sets up nursery, finally giving children access to education!

Little Dreams was established to support 17 children living on a plot in Pretoria. The crèche will now provide them with everything they need.

Johannesburg, South Africa (July 21, 2024) – The Heart of Stella Foundation has once again invested in education, essentially setting up a crèche for children in need. After their work in renovating schools and creating vegetable gardens, the foundation has played a role in building a new crèche.

The team was approached by the “Unchain our Children Umbrella Wing” to help develop a crèche for children in need. In forming the team, Heart of Stella brought in other NPOs to assist with the cause, namely KidsCare.

“In 2024, the call was to help build a crèche for 17 children in Hornsneck in Pretoria West. These children live on the property, most of them do not go to school – they come from rescue missions, extreme poverty and have little to nothing. With just two empty donated containers, provided by Big Box Containers, we set out to do the following:

Arrange the two containers on the plot in a way that is appropriate for the age of the children. These containers can be used for daycare, during holidays, on weekends and as a general safe and pleasant place for children to play and learn.
Create a complete outdoor play area to stimulate gross motor development and encourage healthy play”

In consultation with an occupational therapist who came to assess the children, they were able to advise on suitable learning and stimulation programs. They also set up soup days with the children and even a fun cupcake and donut treat during one of the site visits.

“The name we have been given is Little Dreams Sanctuary – a place that we hope will nurture and preserve those little dreamers. May they never lose hope that everything they want to achieve in life is within their reach and that they are not doomed to repeat generational curses

If you don’t create hope, you destroy it. Let children be children – the core of what we believe.”

Because they are keen to create edible spaces, they have planted 50 citrus trees on the property, which will provide much needed shade for years to come.

“From nothing to this – we are happy to be able to pass on a beautiful place of safety and memories to the children.”
