Globe Telecom has stepped up its efforts to improve online safety by blocking access to child pornography and illegal gambling websites.

In the first half of 2024, Globe intercepted 1,718 domains and 190,167 URLs related to child pornography. This is a significant increase from the 1,295 domains and 129,652 URLs blocked during the same period in 2023.

The company also stepped up its crackdown on illegal gambling sites, deactivating 2,726 domains during the period, compared to 1,828 domains the year before.

Since the launch of the #MakeITSafePH campaign in 2017, Globe has aligned its actions with the Anti-Child Pornography Act of 2009 (Republic Act 9775), which requires internet service providers to take measures to prevent access to child pornography.

“Globe is committed to creating a safer online environment for everyone, especially children. Our increased efforts to limit access to harmful content reflect our commitment to maintaining the highest standards of online safety,” said Anton Bonifacio, Globe Chief Information Security Pfficer and Chief AI Officer.

The company has invested more than $2.7 million in advanced content filtering technologies to increase its capacity to detect and block illegal content.

Globe is partnering with several organizations including the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), the Department of Justice (DOJ), the Philippine Chamber of Telecommunications Operators and non-governmental organizations to strengthen online child protection measures.

These initiatives are part of Globe’s broader strategy to address concerns raised by the US National Center for Missing and Exploited Children, which has identified the Philippines as a major source of online child sexual abuse and exploitation.

In addition to blocking harmful content, Globe’s #MakeITSafePH campaign also includes educational programs and awareness initiatives that provide users with the knowledge and tools they need to protect themselves online.
