‘Want to keep him’: Erik ten Hag sends message after Man Utd set £30m price tag for 10-goal star

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has indicated he is keen to keep hold of midfielder Scott McTominay amid rumours he could be set to leave the side this summer.

The Red Devils are on the transfer market for a new defensive midfielder and have already reached a personal agreement with Paris Saint-Germain star player Manuel Ugarte.

Talks are also ongoing with Les Parisiens over a transfer, with reports suggesting McTominay could be sold to allow the former Sporting man to join.

The Scotland international has attracted the attention of both West Ham United and Fulham, with United hoping for at least £30m to consider his departure in the summer.

Ten Hag has indicated there will be interest in McTominay after his 10-goal season for United.

The Dutchman added that he would prefer to keep the midfielder. The 27-year-old is a very important player with his ability to play in a more advanced role when required.

He said: “If you score 10 goals in a season and perform really well for Scotland then there will be interest. We actually want to keep him because he is a really important player for our squad.”

“We saw what he can contribute last season. When we had the sixes and he could play in a more advanced role, he is a very interesting player for our team.”

McTominay was hugely influential for United in the Premier League last season, scoring eight goals to help the club secure an extra 12 points.

Without him, the Red Devils would have finished in the bottom half of the table in 11th place. It is clear that McTominay has the talent to score goals in crucial situations.

Despite this, we are not surprised that United are willing to sell him for the right price.

As a graduate of the academy, the Scot would bring in pure profit, helping them balance their financial books, but his departure does not seem guaranteed.

The Red Devils are sticking to their asking price. If they don’t get a suitable offer, there’s a good chance the midfielder will stay with them for another season.
