Kimpton Bem Budapest Hotel Opens

Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants, part of the luxury and lifestyle portfolio of IHG Hotels & Resorts, has officially opened Kimpton Bem Budapest on the Buda side of the capital.

The hotel is located on the banks of the Danube, close to the UNESCO World Heritage Castle District and several attractions such as the Fisherman’s Bastion, Matthias Church and the Chain Bridge.

Kimpton Bem Budapest bears the signature of renowned Dutch designer Marcel Wanders, internationally known for his unconventional and imaginative design philosophy. The hotel’s design borrows from Budapest’s rich folklore, combining whimsical accents with historical elements, according to a press release sent to the Budapest Business Journal. The reception desks are shaped like upside-down eggs, reflecting Wanders’ penchant for the form, complemented by decorative books, collectibles and treasures from around the world.

Patterns throughout the hotel pay homage to unique Hungarian mythological creatures and native flora, including illustrations of poppies and tulips. Spaces feature a serene palette of “cool” colors contrasted with striking architectural textures and elements, such as a central glass atrium with a Golden Stag, coved ceilings and lush greenery. The 127 guestrooms, including 11 suites, feature luxurious bedding and walk-in showers. Suites feature luxurious freestanding bathtubs and spacious balconies.

For those looking for a truly over-the-top stay in Budapest, the Cosmos and Observatory Suites are available, with the option to connect together for 120 square meters of space, complete with two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a living room, dining room and an accompanying kitchenette. The Observatory Suite, in particular, features an adjoining private furnished 82 square meter roof terrace, ideal for stargazing and private gatherings.

Atilla AE Domby, General Manager of Kimpton Bem Budapest, commented: “We are delighted to be part of Kimpton Hotels & Restaurants’ first venture into the capital of Hungary! Kimpton BEM Budapest combines elegance and urban energy, just a stone’s throw from the beautiful Danube River and Budapest’s top attractions. With its stylish yet playful atmosphere, Kimpton Bem Budapest offers a unique glimpse into the cultural crossroads of East and West.”

The stay experience is accompanied by three distinct dining venues, including a chef-driven signature restaurant, a green rooftop bar and sky-high garden, and an all-day lobby-level bar and restaurant. The signature Agos restaurant, led by chef Attila Fehér, presents an innovative gastronomic journey through the Mediterranean with Hungarian flair. The rooftop Fennen restaurant is nestled above the urban landscape, where guests can enjoy shared conversation in the lush garden, accompanied by Cuban cigars, aged rum and Japanese whisky. On the ground floor, Bar Huso is inspired by the legend of Huso Huso, the beluga sturgeon – a mystical inhabitant of the Danube.mBar Huso offers a diverse cocktail menu that combines timeless classics with contemporary creations and an extensive menu. On weekends, Bar Huso hosts live DJ sets.

Kimpton Bem Budapest is also home to a range of venues suitable for both large and intimate events, including the Turul Chamber, Golden Stag Corner, MW Salon, a tribute to Marcel Wanders, and the grand Bem Ballroom, the latter of which can accommodate up to 120 guests. In addition, the boutique hotel features a dedicated wellness area, complete with a 24/7 fitness centre, hot tub and steam room.

As with all Kimpton hotels, guests can enjoy a curated Kimpton Social evening, as well as complimentary Kimpton Morning Kickstart, perks like complimentary yoga mats and bike rentals, a “Forgot It? We’ve Got It!” amenity program and more, the press release said.

Kimpton Bem Budapest has a pet-friendly policy. Pets are provided with loaner beds, food, water bowls and mats, and there is also a concierge list of nearby pet-friendly destinations.
