Houston Texans Rookie CB Kamari Lassiter Improves Thanks to CJ Stroud

The Houston Texans opened their draft class this offseason with Georgia cornerback Kamari Lassiter, who will get to practice all year against last year’s top pick, C.J. Stroud.

Lassiter, like Stroud, has the opportunity to be a plug-and-play type and make an immediate impact for Houston. Playing against Stroud in practice has helped Lassiter grow as he heads into his first training camp.

“It just makes me so much better because my technique has to be right every play because it’s a two-on-one. I’m one-on-one with the receiver and then I’m matched up with the quarterback, and the quarterback is elite,” Lassiter said. “So just knowing that if I make one wrong step or do one wrong thing for too long, it could be over because whoever I’m playing against, whether it’s Stefon, Nico (Collins), Tank (Dell), (John) Metchie, Noah (Brown), it doesn’t matter. Those guys are elite. So I have to be elite at the same time.”

Stroud has talked about the concept of “iron sharpens iron” and this is another example of that. Stroud’s level of play in practice helps his teammates be better prepared for the game on Sunday, and that’s crucial for a franchise quarterback.

If Lassiter learns a few tricks playing against Stroud during training camp and training throughout the season, he will only get better as the weeks go on.
