Former Whanganui MP Harete Hipango is one of four new appointments to New Zealand’s Sports Tribunal.

Minister of Sport and Recreation Chris Bishop announced the appointments last week.

“The New Zealand Sports Tribunal does important work to ensure that national sporting bodies and other parties to a sporting dispute, such as athletes, have access to an affordable, fair and expeditious means of resolving a sporting dispute,” Bishop said.

The main disputes dealt with by the Arbitration for Sport are violations of doping laws, appeals against disciplinary decisions or failure to select for a national team, and other sport-related disputes referred by agreement of all parties.

“The Governor-General, on the recommendation of Cabinet, has approved the appointment of four new members to the Tribunal. These four appointments ensure that the Tribunal will continue to have collectively excellent and relevant knowledge and skills, including an appropriate mix of experience in governance, sports law, sports participation and administration.”
