Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 2 trailer at San Diego Comic Con

Get your best look yet at Prime Video’s Season 2 The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Powerwho debuted an epic trailer at San Diego Comic-Con, revealing everything from new villains to how the eponymous Rings of Power will destroy the world of Middle-earth.

Set in JRR Tolkien’s Second Age, the series is set in a time long before Tolkien’s events. The Lord of the Rings saga and paves the way for that final quest to destroy the One Ring. But before there was the One Ring, there were the other Rings of Power, and it’s there that the action picks up in Season 2, premiering exclusively on Prime Video on August 29.

The new trailer shows off a bunch of buzzy sneak peeks for fans to get excited about, including the live-action debuts of the fearsome Barrow-wight creatures and the enigmatic Tolkien character Tom Bombadil (Rory Kinnear). The legendary tree-like figures the Ents also make an appearance, along with the fiery monstrosity the Balrog and a majestic Great Eagle.

We also see Season 1 protagonist Halbrand, aka Sauron (Charlie Vickers), now turned antagonist, as he takes on the guise of Annatar, “the Lord of Gifts” in Tolkien lore, in order to manipulate the Elves after the creation of the first Rings of Power.

The stakes are as high as ever in Season 2, with Durin IV (Owain Arthur) rallying the dwarves to battle a growing evil, with an all-elven army on the march against a rival battalion of orcs. And, of course, all eyes are on the Tolkien creation that gives the series its name: those powerful rings.

The first season of The Rings of Power was a huge global success and one of the best original series for Prime Video, having been watched by over 100 million people worldwide and generating more global Prime sign-ups during its launch period than any other content to date.
