The Syracuse family lives above a lake with sewage. Can anyone help? Kayla Deaver’s bed has been in her dining room for months. She and her baby, Amelia, had to stop sleeping in the bedroom because the smell was so bad. In the basement, just below the room, is an expanding lake of human sewage. Deaver said she has tried everyone she was expected to: her landlord, law enforcement, her case worker at the Onondaga County Department of Social Services. Her friend even emailed Syracuse Mayor Ben Walsh’s office. But nothing helped. The sewer in the basement is still overflowing this week and she still lives there with her three children.

The bizarre incident happened last summer at Syracuse Hancock International Airport. Hertz staff walked away from their desks, leaving at least 20 customers behind as they came to pick up their reserved vehicles. Their solution? Take any car you can find keys to, apparently.
