Beloved F1 expert announces surprise departure from Sky Sports

Damon Hill has announced his surprise departure from Sky SportsF1 after 13 years working as a pundit for the broadcaster.

Hill, the 1996 F1 world champion, appeared on screen at the final race in Brazil and will not feature in the final three races of the 2024 season

The 64-year-old posted on X on Friday: “It’s been a fantastic 13 years at Sky Sports F1, but all good things must come to an end.

“I will miss the most impressive group of professionals I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I look forward to new challenges.”

Sky Sports has been contacted for comment.

The post was accompanied by two photos: one with current F1 pundit Martin Brundle and the other with former Sky pundit Johnny Herbert.

Fellow Sky F1 pundit Bernie Collins responded to Hill’s post, saying: “I will personally miss Damon (sic) immensely! I’ve enjoyed working with you over the past two seasons.

“Thank you for all the support. See you soon!”

F1TV broadcaster Will Buxton added: “Your insight has always been unique, deep and inspiring. A great loss for the great team at Sky, but forever grateful that the world benefited from the many lessons of your career and life.

“And personally, I am grateful that my hero has become my friend for the past thirteen years.”

Hill joined Sky when the British broadcaster acquired the rights to F1 in Britain in 2012 and has appeared on a rotating basis throughout each season.

He recently insisted he had no ‘vendetta’ against Max Verstappen after criticizing the Red Bull driver after last month’s Mexican Grand Prix.

Hill, son of two-time F1 world champion Graham Hill, claimed his only F1 title in 1996 with Williams and won 22 Grands Prix, also driving for Brabham, Arrows and Jordan before retiring after the 1999 season.
