Mike Tyson and Jake Paul Fight Sets a Non-Las Vegas Combat Sports Record with $18.1 Million Gate | News, scores, highlights, stats and rumors

While fans were disappointed with the lackluster boxing match between heavyweight legend Mike Tyson and YouTuber Jake Paul on Friday, it is now one of the most lucrative events in boxing history.

According to ESPN’s Andreas Hale, Friday’s fight drew more than 72,300 fans to AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas and grossed a total of $18,117,072, setting the record for the highest-grossing gate for a combat sports event outside Las Vegas.

Tyson vs. Paul, Paul’s Most Valuable Promotions and streamed live on Netflix, is also now the ninth highest-ever martial arts gate in American history. The previous record for a Texas event was $9 million for Canelo Alvarez’s fight with Billy Joe Saunders in 2021.

While the main event was a mediocre fight that Paul won by unanimous decision, the co-main event, which saw Katie Taylor narrowly defeat Amanda Serrano to retain her undisputed lightweight title, provided plenty of fireworks for fans and will go down as a of the best. fights in the history of women’s boxing.

Netflix said 60 million households tuned in to watch the event, the first martial arts event to be streamed live on the platform. .

Netflix will continue with live sporting events, including NFL Christmas Gameday featuring the Houston Texans versus the Baltimore Ravens with Beyonce at halftime and WWE’s Monday Night Raw moving to the platform on January 6.
